Interesting read! When it comes to decentralizing identity, interoperability is a major concern. While there's interoperability between dAPPS within the same blockchain, there's no interoperability between different blockchains.
It therefore means one would need different decentralized identities for different blockchains, or accept to be stuck in one. Isn't that almost similar to the same problem everyone has with centralized identity databases?
Apart from interoperability issues, decentralizing identities on blockchain delivers privacy and accountability, but no accountability. I want accountability from others I encounter online just as much as I want privacy and anonymity.
Decentralization, by itself, lacks something important. Governance! Governance is an essential part of ensuring there's accountability. Also, governance doesn't mean the existence of a government.

Decentralized identity still has a big vulnerability. I've written about it here. https://dkioria.substack.com/p/decentralized-identitys-big-vulnerability
